Over the past months, I have frequently felt that a different skillset might have been helpful as a headteacher navigating the hazardous and volatile Covid landscape – a medical background or army training would have been pretty handy! So when the latest McKinsey report focusing on the future employability was published , I was instantly hooked.
I have always been conscious that we live in a fast-paced and ever-evolving world. Right now, the pace of change is exponential, precipitated in no small part to technological advancement, globalisation, Covid-19 and the climate crisis. As educators, we really do have to prepare our students for a world we do not know, so more than ever, we must consider deeply the skills, knowledge and attributes that we wish to develop.
‘Defining the skills citizens will need in the future world of work’ makes thought-provoking reading for educators, employers, examination boards and governments. If you haven’t read it yet, I commend it to you.
